George Foerstner established Amana Corporation, a company that manufactures commercial coolers, in Amana, Iowa, in 1934. It was first shown as a member of the Amana Society. This was Amana’s main draw, and many consumers were pleased with the products. Amana made its first freezers for the domestic market in 1947. In 1949, the company began to sell refrigerators and freezes. In 1950, a group of investors bought the company, including George Foerstner. Amana Refrigeration, Inc. became the new name for the company. In 1954, the company added air conditioners to its product line. Raytheon acquired the Amana Refrigeration Company in 1965.
