Whirlpool Troubleshooting common causes
Why does my dishwasher not get water?
Your dishwasher could not fill with water for several reasons. A faulty drain hose or door latch, a shut-off water supply, or an obstructed float that protects against overfilling the dishwasher may be to blame. Learn how to fix these problems on your own by reading on.
The drain hose needs to be correctly positioned
Your dishwasher may be siphoning if the loop at the end of the drain hose isn’t positioned 20 inches above the subfloor or floor. Connect the drain hose to the waste tee or disposal inlet above your plumbing drain trap. This must be done at least 20 inches off the floor.
The door to the dishwashing machine is unlocked or open
An open or not closed door will prevent water from entering the dishwasher. A flashing START/RESUME light usually indicates this. In this case, close the dishwasher door and press START/RESUME to continue the cycle.
The valve that controls the water supply is closed
To fill your dishwasher, turn the water valve to the open position. Open the valve to the water supply in your kitchen as necessary to allow the water to flow freely.
Overfill Protection Float is Obstructed
The overfill protection device prevents the dishwasher from overfilling. It must be installed correctly to allow the appliance to fill. The float may be in the corner of the front right on specific models. A professional should check out any newer models needing help filling. Move the float up and down, checking for obstructions. If necessary, remove any obstructions.
My dishwasher will fill with water and then stop
If your dishwasher fills up but needs to reach the wash cycle, you may be dealing with a technical issue. This could be due to a shorted thermal fuse, electronic control board, or other problem. Contact a professional for assistance.
