My Microwave’s interior is peeling
As with any kitchen appliance, the Microwave will wear out after a few years. Over time, the paint on microwave interiors can peel. Peeling interior paint can be a fire danger and contaminate any food cooked in the unit.
Causes
Food splatters on the interior of a microwavable, and if it’s not removed immediately, the food can bake into the surface and harden. This creates a hot spot. These hotspots get warmer during the cooking process than the rest. This can lead to deterioration in the paint. Sharp objects can scratch the paint.
Possible Dangers
Hot spots can also cause the interior paint on a microwave to flake.
If the Microwave is on, places left behind by food or paint scratches could spark. It is a fire risk if the paint peels and hangs. For the interior of your Microwave to be spark-free, it must be clean.
Prevention
The best way to prevent peeling paint inside of microwaves is prevention. The best way to stop peeling is by cleaning spills and splatters as soon as possible. However, if peeling has already begun, you can use fine-grit sandpaper on the microwave interior to remove the hanging paint. This will prevent the peeling from continuing. It is safe to operate the Microwave only if no significant peeling exists. The scratched areas can rust over the years if they are not repainted. If the peeling is too severe and there’s rust on all surfaces, you should buy a new one.
